A healthy bird population at the Lebrade ponds.
I‘m on vacation (as if you couldn‘t tell from the increased rate of posting here) and today was a photographically successful day. Here‘s a photo diary (more…)

Autofocus sensors right to the edge of the frame
My main DSLR, a Nikon D 800, is 4 years old and has 80000 actuations. Should I trust it to work flawlessly during this year’s photo projects (especially my son’s wedding)? Not without a backup body, no, I won’t.

Leica bondage
I realize I don’t bond with a digital camera like I do with an analog one. I even bought my M6 a decorative piece of rope yesterday …

The Fuji grew some bling
A vented lens hood, a Thumbs-up thumb rest and a red soft release. Trying to improve the Fujifilm X100F here. The lens hood is an optical improvement, no question, and, being vented and tapered, doesn’t impinge on the optical viewfinder image so much. The other two need more explanation. (more…)

The Yngwie Strat ain't so bad, but I'd rather take my Martin
I’m leaving today for a week’s worth of medical convention in Düsseldorf. Deciding what pieces of gear to take with me has been an interesting debate with myself.

But then, the newest incarnation of the Leica M Gestalt is one of the best digital cameras on the market. It’d be a shame to limit it’s potential to hand-held use. And as every photographer worth his salt knows, the simplest way to make your photos sharper is to use a tripod.
A Leica on a tripod is an abomination. But not with this:

The Camera as Lens Attachment: D7000 on Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G ED AF-S VR II, tripod foot removed, Sun Sniper Strap attached to tripod socket
26th November 2010: Updated: Added resolution at f/4.0 shots.
NAS* is a terrible disease. One visit to the Nikon demo booth on a photo fair, and you just have to own Nikon’s Pro Tele Zoom, the Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G ED AF-S VR II. I’ll have to
auction off my Ebony SV45U2 large format camera in order to be able to afford it, but whatever.
