As promised, here are some fresh results from the Nikon D7000. Updated with more photos on Nov. 13, 2010
Again, the pictures are clickable for full-size JPEGs. I made those from RAW files of this morning’s walk. A rather convoluted workflow was neccessary. Up to now, only a beta of Adobe’s Camera RAW and the associated DNG converter understand the D7000’s NEF files. The DNGs I then imported into Aperture and tweaked them to my liking, especially with Nik Software’s plugins. Sorry, no test shots of brick walls here! 😉

Never before noticed the Zeiss ZF 25 mm lens had a barrel distortion!

    That last image is great.

Have you tried http://www.raw-photo-processor.com/RPP/Overview.html for RAW conversions? I really think it is excellent.

    Thanks!
Yes, and Raw Photo Processor actually was on my computer, I’d just forgotten about it. I’ve done a comparison between it’s newest version and Adobe DNG converter and there sure are differences in the results with regards to microdetail (Raw Photo Processor’s results look a bit oversharpened), white balance and tonemapping. Raw Photo Processor has every conceivable setting to influence that, but I think that’s the wrong stage in the workflow. For me, RAW conversion is akin to developing a film. Results must be malleable, creative decisions must not be baked in at this stage. Sorry, old-school.

On the other hand, I just updated this page with three pictures that started with Raw Photo Processor converted tiffs. Sometimes this biting sharpness works. Horses for courses …
